What It's Like Being an ADPi at the University of Arkansas

    • 3 min read

Hey! My name is Cristina Olvera and I am the Content Editor Intern here at Emerson Coast! When I’m not working, I love going to Razorback games, playing with my dog, Leia, and going to karaoke and trivia nights with my friends! Let's dive into my experience as an ADPI at the University of Arkansas!

    Why Alpha Delta Pi?

When I first met with ADPi during recruitment, I was immediately struck by their commitment to philanthropy and service. I was touched by their dedication to supporting Ronald McDonald Housing Charities through regular, hands-on visits to the housing. Talking to the women in the chapter was a breath of fresh air, especially during the stressful recruitment process. They were welcoming, reassuring, and truly seemed to embody the values of sisterhood and support that drew me to Greek lifein the first place. Finally, as I looked around the house, I couldn't help but feel inspired by the diversity. It felt real and genuine, and I knew that this was a sisterhood where I could be myself and truly make a difference.

    Freshman Year

Looking back on my freshman year in ADPi, I can't help but feel grateful for all that this sorority has brought to my life. Being a freshman, I was worried about feeling lost in the midst of so many people, but I found my place in the Input Committee. This gave me a platform to be a voice for my pledge class, sharing opinions on topics such as bylaws and functions. Unfortunately, Covid hit and we were forced to distance ourselves from ADPi, but the love and support from this sorority never failed. They ensured that we never felt lost or disconnected by holding Zoom meetings and creating mini GroupMe's for those closer to each other's hometowns!

    Family Ties

I am so thankful to have my big, who has also become my best friend, and roommate! As time went on, I became a big to three amazing girls, and we have since become inseparable. Our weekly dinners have become a time for us to bond and be there for each other. We even take extra time for ice cream dates and dog walks! The support and affection I received from my sorority fam inspired me to take my membership to the next level!

I created a position for ADPi and became the first-ever DEI Chair! My goal was to inspire the sustainability of diversity, equity, and inclusion. I organized movie nights and provided weekly discussion topics to foster a stronger bond among sisters. I am grateful for the opportunity and so proud of the impact I have made!

    Staying True

During my time with Alpha Delta Pi, I have been changed in many ways, but one that stands out to me is how my sisters have taught me to expand my horizons. They have inspired me to seek out a job that makes a difference in people's lives. I have been dreaming of doing editorial work for a nonprofit organization, and I can thank ADPI for igniting that spark in me.

This dream of mine is not just a distant goal, but something I am implementing in my current job. I am working to bring inclusion into websites though alternative text and other accommodations!

ADPi has been such an important part of my life, and I'm grateful every day to be a part of this incredible sisterhood! Boom Boom & rush the diamond!
