To Be a Delta Gamma at the University of Arkansas

    • 3 min read

Hi, my name is Gracie Fason and I am theMarketing Package Intern here at Emerson Coast! I just completed my freshman year at the University of Arkansas and can tell you that rushing was hands down the best part of it. So... you really want to know what it's like to be a Delta Gamma? Let's get into it!

    Why Delta Gamma?

Going through rush week a stressful experience (obviously), but at the end of the day, it was Delta Gamma that made it all worth it. I remember feeling stressed and really nervous when visiting several houses, but as soon as I stepped into DG, everything changed. It was like a wave of relief and calm washed over me. I felt welcomed, included, and comfortable – but it wasn't just about the physical comfort. The girls I talked to genuinely wanted to know how I was doing and what I was feeling. The conversations never felt superficial. It truly felt like the girls I talked to saw me for who I am and nothing else. And, in the end, it was this feeling that made me choose Delta Gamma! I mean who wouldn't!?

    Meeting My People

My freshman year experience was nothing short of amazing. While it was overwhelming at times, it was overwhelming in the best way possible! I owe it all to Delta Gamma because their new member events helped me get to know so many girls in my member class. It was at one of these events that I met my best friend! We had a new member challenge that week to go on a sister date, and we went to get smoothie bowls. From then on, we have done everything together. Getting my big was also such a blessing (I seriously won the jackpot)! She took me to get fro yo on our Big/Little date and we ended up staying until it closed. We went back to the house to eat dinner and talk for hours. We have so many fun traditions, and we even go to semi-formal and formal together as a fam! Getting to go through all of my college firsts with these girls makes everything worth remembering!

    Finding My Place

Running for office can be an exhilarating and challenging experience. For me, it all started when I held a leadership position in my high school sorority. The experience gave me the confidence to believe that I could help Delta Gamma achieve its goals and work towards a better sisterhood. When I became the director of fundraising, I knew it was a blessing. In this role, I am responsible for all aspects of fundraising and running our philanthropy events. Putting together these events is always so rewarding! My favorite event to organize was the silent auction we held on Mom's Weekend. I had the opportunity to create baskets filled with activities that moms and daughters could enjoy together. It was a fantastic experience that taught me a lot about event planning and leadership!

As I look ahead to the next three years, there are a few things that I am really looking forward to. One of the biggest events on my radar is Work Week and Recruitment. I want the PNM's feel welcomed and at home, just as I did when I was in their shoes. Beyond that, I am thrilled to have the opportunity to grow my DG family by taking on a little! I can't wait to shower her with gifts and be there for her throughout college. Lastly, I hope to continue in my leadership position and even have some new fundraising events!

I am incredibly grateful for the amazing start that Delta Gamma has given me in college, and I know that the next three years will be filled with even more unforgettable experiences. As always, Do Good!
