    ANAD WEEK

There's nothing we love more than a good philanthropy event - especially one that lasts a whole week! I got to talk with Jacqueline Paynter, the sweet girl behind ANAD Week 2022 for Delta Phi Epsilon at St. Joseph's College. She talked through each day of ANAD week, explaining what each day stood for and how it connected back to their national philanthropy, the National Association of Anorexia Nervosa and Associated Disorders (ANAD.) It was truly the BEST getting a sneak peek into their campus wide event, and how much fun the chapter had throughout the week! Let's dive into ANAD week, going day by day!

MAKE SURE TO CHECK OUT THEIR INSTA!!

    No Makeup Monday

Delta Phi Epsilon at St. Joseph's has been throwing ANAD Week for years, and it seems to have only gotten better and better! Every year, they choose different themes for each day throughout the week, touching on different topics that surround their philanthropy. It's all about personal wellness, mental health, and spreading kindness to yourself and those around you. Their philanthropy is centered around fighting anorexia and eating disorders, and this unique week long event is a great way to spread awareness!

To start the week off right, the chapter participates in "No Makeup Monday." Girls in the chapter don't wear makeup that day, posting selfies on Instagram to show off their inner beauty. This is a super simple way to break down the unattainable expectations that are put on young women on social media, especially sorority girls or people in college. By breaking down that barrier, chapter members are able to be 100% themselves, starting ANAD week off strong.

    Trash Your Insecurities Tuesday

Tuesday is for trashing those insecurities! Everyone has some, whether they admit it or not. This day allows people to not be dragged down by their insecurities, but instead focus on what you love about themselves! Jacqueline talked me through this special day and how she got the whole campus involved. They simply placed purple buckets around the school with a "Trash Your Insecurities" sign on front. They took it to main common areas, girls' bathrooms, and the cafeteria to give students a chance to let go of what's holding them back. Another simple way to make a huge impact on campus!

((they also made a super cute TikTok showing off people trashing their insecurities))

    Wellness Wednesday

Wednesday was all about taking care of yourself, both physically and mentally. To get the wellness day started, both the chapter and the sisters posted motivational quotes on their social media, sharing the good vibes. It served as a good reminder to take care of yourself, and help however you can to help out those around you that might be struggling.

They ended the day with a Zoom yoga class! As a chapter, they were able to harness their inner chi, relaxing together and taking a break from the pressures that might be holding them down. They also did meditation! Again, these are simple events that have the possibility to make a huge difference. You never know who really needed that sisterhood wellness Zoom to help them get through that week :))

    Treat People with Kindness Thursday

Thursday is my favorite day of ANAD Week, and it may or may not be because it's named after Harry Styles. The goal of this day was simple - to spread kindness! Each chapter member was tasked with giving three strangers compliments, spreading the love around! This is another way to help people out in their community, showing how easy it can be to build someone up. A random but genuine compliment could be the brightest part of a stranger's day, so why not do it??Also, it's what Harry Styles would want you to do. He wrote that song for a reason, so treat people with kindness!!

((Love Delta Phi Epsilon at St. Joseph's 10x more for how many of their members are Harry stans))

    Friendship Friday

Finally, Friday! Friday was all about friendship, specifically the bonds within the sorority. The girls all came together (wearing the cutest shirts ever, IMO) to talk about things in a safe space. They encouraged people to shout out their friends that have helped them through tough times, allowing them to open up to their sisters. The ability to be vulnerable with a group of girls that know how important this topic is is truly SO powerful. By creating Friendship Friday, DPhiE was able to strengthen current bonds and create new ones!

Also, they were able spread more awareness and lessen the stigma surrounding eating disorders and mental health. By opening up about personal struggles, they were able to let each other know that no, you're not alone. You're not the only one that struggles with this, and you don't have to go through it solo. And at the end of the day, that's what being a part of a sorority is all about. Being there for each other, for the good times and bad.

It was truly SO inspiring hearing about DPhiE's impactful philanthropy week. It goes to show that you don't need elaborate events or tons of money spent to make a difference throughout the sisterhood and campus as a whole. This chapter was able to talk about their struggles and insecurities in a safe place, all while building one another up. AND they get the whole campus involved?? That's a huge win.

Delta Phi Epsilon at St. Jospeh's College, thank you for sharing ANAD Week with us! It was truly so amazing to learn about a philanthropy that affects so many young adults, and learn how easy it can be to get people talking about topics like mental health. Jacqueline, thank you for taking the time to walk me through this incredible event y'all throw every year!!
